Elizabeth Brandis - 1805 

An early 19th century sampler, natural linen ground worked in cross stitch in blues, greens and brown silks with 4 verses within floral border.

'NOT DIFFERENT FOOD, NOR DIFFERENT DRESS, COMPOSE THE KINGDOMS OF OUR LORD BUT PEACE AND JOY, AND RIGHTEOUSNESS, FAITH AND OBEDIENCE TO HIS WORD.'

'WHEN WEAKER CHRISTIANS WE DESPISE, WE DO THE GOSPEL MIGHTY WRONG; FOR GOD THE GRACIOUS AND THE WISE, RECEIVES THE FEEBLE AND THE STRONG.'

'LET PRIDE AND WRATH BE BANISH'D HENCE, MEEKNESS AND LOVE OUR SOULS PERSUE, NOR SHALL OUR PRACTICE GIVE OFFENCE TO SAINTS, THE GENTLE OR THE FEW.'

'O THAT THE LORD INDEED WOULD ME HIS SERVANT BLESS, FROM EVERY EVIL SHEILD MY HEAD AND CROWN MY PATHS WITH PEACE!'

Named and dated 'Elizabeth Brandis her work aged 11 years 1805 (small holes) otherwise in good condition. Unusual piece, very endearing. 11.5in. x 9.5in., framed and glazed.

This one sold for $550 in November 1998.
