Sampler motifs: Their meanings

Behind common sampler motifs are deeper meanings. If you know of the symbolism behind a sampler motif or other symbol not listed here, please let me know. Many thanks go to Theresa Venette of Shakespeare's Peddler for letting me use information contained within her website.

Knowing what the motifs on your sampler mean, gives you a clearer idea of what your sampler is about, and what thoughts the young girl had when she made the sampler all those years ago!
